San Jose State offers autonomous check-out

A new system installed at a San Jose State University on-campus market means shoppers picking up poke bowls or snacks don't need to wait in line to check out. Instead, customers tap in with an app when they enter the store and a camera system tracks their movements, automatically charging a payment method and sending a receipt. Emily Bamforth reports.

Google announces $100 million skilling fund

Google announced a $100 million fund last week to support learners taking the company's online professional certificates. Google will work with partners like nonprofits Merit America and Year Up to initially pay for up-front costs, as well as offer support services. Emily explains.

Ransomware forces Washington community college offline

Centralia Community College in Washington shut down some systems last week to protect student information following a ransomware attack. Ransomware attacks on higher education grew in 2021, and Ohlone Community College District lost access to phones and emails for 10 days in January to mitigate an attack. Colin Wood has more.
