'Zoombombers' are disrupting online classes

With hundreds of universities moving classes online during the coronavirus pandemic, college students and professors have turned to video conferencing platforms like Zoom to stay connected. The FBI, however, has issued a warning that bad actors potentially can hijack several conferences and/or classes to disrupt them with explicit and hateful images and comments. The phenomenon has come to be known as "Zoombombing" and has been reported in classes at at least two Massachusetts universities, as well as the University of Southern California. The hijackers didn't exploit any software vulnerabilities inherent within Zoom. Instead, they took advantage of inexperience with the tool itself, specifically its screen-sharing function. Betsy Foresman has details.
