A more transparent application process

The University of Central Florida has implemented a new tool that advisers say makes it easier for international applicants to apply to the school and track the process. Applications that used to fly into a "black hole," says UCF's Paulo Graxton, are now transparent along every step of their journey through university offices. Distance-learning devices in Florida

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and state Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran announced that more than 32,000 laptops will be distributed to school districts while in-person classes are postponed throughout the state. Supply chain issues have disrupted availability of many products — and especially certain types of office equipment — as millions work and learn from home during the pandemic. DeSantis, who is considering re-opening schools on May 1, said "Florida is truly raising the bar for distance learning.” Colin Wood has more.


Coronavirus challenge gets "university edition"

IBM announced last week that its annual “Call for Code” competition, designed to rally technologists and non-technologists alike to solve humanitarian challenges, will this year include a special “university edition.” Through a partnership with the Clinton Global Initiative University, a year-round leadership development program, this year’s challenge invites university students to find solutions that can help the world respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change.
