Ransomware on edtech vendor results in data breach of 500K Chicago students

A December breach at education company Battelle for Kids affected about 500,000 Chicago students. The Chicago Public Schools wrote in an FAQ on its website that it was not notified of the December breach until the end of April. The district used teacher evaluation software from Battelle for Kids. Selecting a leader for data-backed student success

The University of Central Florida hired Paul Dosal as its new senior vice president for student success, beginning July 1. The role involves implementing predictive analytics and new technologies to back up student success programs. Dosal oversaw student success at the University of South Florida while the institution implemented data tools developed in-house and purchased through vendors to improve metrics like graduation rates. Emily Bamforth reports.
