Too much technology can cause problems, campus emergency managers say

To effectively communicate in an emergency like the coronavirus pandemic, campuses need to design alerts that cut through the chaos, experts said during an online event Wednesday. But more technologies and digital notifications aren’t the answer, said Anne-Marie McLaughlin, New York University’s director of emergency management and continuity. Having documentation for which digital tool to use in a specific situation can help campuses more quickly deliver information to the public, McLaughlin said. Emily Bamforth has the details.

Universities want 'authentic' fan engagement, CEO says

Colleges and universities often ask students, parents and alumni to ramp up excitement at events through posting photos on social media. EnTribe, software for managing and storing that content, thinks there’s a better way to engage the campus community, the company’s CEO told EdScoop. EnTribe’s customer relationship management system is designed to improve marketing that uses content uploaded by members of the campus community, like photos from a football game or alumni event. The software allows institutions to store information about users who upload photos and communicate with them, as well as track rights and privacy agreements for uploaded content. Emily has it.
