University graduation ceremonies are going virtual during the pandemic

Purdue University is the latest higher eduction institution to announce that its 2020 graduation ceremony will be held virtually. It joins a small list of others — including the University of Nevada, Johns Hopkins University, Virginia Tech, West Virginia University, Delaware State University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Texas at Austin — that committed to holding the spring events digitally. Purdue, though, says it is working to make the ceremony as similar to the traditional event as possible. Students will still be able to rent or purchase caps and gowns and have them shipped to their homes for free. In addition, the university will provide a series of filters and virtual photo backgrounds of popular on-campus locations for graduation photos. Betsy Foresman has the details of how it will work.
