IBM issues K-12 cybersecurity grants

Amid an onslaught of cyberattacks against the education sector, IBM on Wednesday announced six school systems that’ll receive a total of $3 million of the computing giant’s cybersecurity services. The six K-12 districts, which span from New York to California, were selected from a pool of more than 250 that applied to receive up to $500,000 worth of consultations from the company’s cybersecurity division. Purdue has a new CIO

Purdue University’s new CIO, Ian Hyatt, began work Tuesday, leading the central IT department of about 500 employees and an $85 million budget, according to a press release. The team runs one of the “world’s largest wireless networks,” according to its website, and maintains infrastructure for the university’s high-performance computing research including the “Purdue System Cloud,” which services three campuses, including the flagship school in West Lafayette, Indiana. The top-tier research university system claims an enrollment of about 45,000 students. Emily Bamforth reports.

Howard U., AWS educate students on cloud skills

Howard University and Amazon Web Services are working together to educate staff and students on cloud technologies, building from concepts in AWS Educate, an online learning program. Incorporating segments of AWS cloud courses is intended to allow Howard to offer students up-to-date technical skills, preparing them for the workforce. Offering faculty training in cloud skills and areas like machine learning and cybersecurity will allow them to incorporate these technologies into their curriculums. Emily has the story.
