Ohio University IT is on the search for new anti-plagiarism tools

Ohio University’s information technology team is partnering with the campus’s Center of Consumer Research and Analytics to refresh its recommended plagiarism detection software. The 15,000-student university in the southern Ohio city of Athens currently recommends Turnitin and Blackboard’s SafeAssign, but does not require faculty to use the software. Turnitin submissions grew by about 1,000 between fall 2019 and 2020 at the university and because of the changes the coronavirus pandemic brought to how students complete work, it’s time to reassess what software best fits the campus’s needs, Eszti Major-Rohrer, an academic technology manager, said in an emailed statement to EdScoop. Nonprofit to launch online course-sharing platform for higher ed

Complete College America, a nonprofit that develops strategies and policy to boost college completion rates, announced last month it wants to build a national network of higher education institutions offering students more online options. CCA announced a partnership with the online course-sharing platform Acadeum on Sept. 30 to build out the consortium, offering the thousand-plus colleges and universities within its 47 member states and networks a chance to join. Nia Haydel, the nonprofit’s vice president for alliance engagement and institutional transformation, said online-course sharing is a complement to the strategies that the group advises for colleges and universities looking to improve student success. Miami-Dade College CIO says new CRM could help struggling students

Miami-Dade College, one of the largest public higher education institutions in the country, is building out its data strategy over the next two years. A key piece of that project, Chief Information Officer Tanya Acevedo told EdScoop, involves implementing a centralized customer relationship management system. The college, with eight campuses and about 100,000 students, plans to pull from the CRM’s logged interactions to track what students need and find indicators of struggling students before they drop out.
