Virginia Tech's CIO outlines pandemic challenges

Scott Midkiff, chief information officer at Virginia Tech, says this disruptive time in education has not only called his attention to new technology needs, but also to the well-being of the individuals using and implementing these new tools. In an interview with EdScoop, Midkiff shares what his school is doing in response to the pandemic and how he wishes it had reacted sooner. Betsy Foresman reports.

For online ed, Alaska looks south

Alaska last announced a new program that allows K-12 students to take online courses via an institution called the Florida Virtual School. Though Gov. Mike Dunleavy said "school is more than a location," others, including some Alaska educators, took the sudden partnership as an insult. Betsy has the details.

Competitive coders convene online

The University of Central Florida brought together more than 100 students from nearly 30 institutions in virtual training sessions for the upcoming International Collegiate Programming Contest World Finals. “These students must continue to have the opportunity to hone their skills,” said UCF Board of Trustees Chair Beverly Seay, “which will benefit not only their futures but also the companies, government agencies and universities that will hire them.”   Jake Williams has more.
