California asks public for devices, cash to help online learning

Tony Thurmond, California's State Superintendent of Public Instruction, asked the public to donate cash or devices to help California's more than 6 million students continue learning from home as universities and public schools remain closed to in-person instruction. Thurmond's ask comes days after Google donated 4,000 Chromebooks and 100,000 Wi-Fi hotspots to support K-12 distance learning in the state during the coronavirus pandemic. Colin Wood has additional detail on California's educational response here.
