Cyber simulation

Students enrolled in the University of Houston's cybersecurity master's program were unable to access the usual labs and equipment to demonstrate their expertise this year. Instead they alternately defended and attacked virtual industrial control systems in a game specially designed by the cybersecurity training company ThreatGEN. “The whole problem-solving aspect is difficult to simulate in class. This game allows us to do that,” said computer science professor Art Conklin. Betsy Foresman explains how it worked.

A call to fund remote education

State government leaders and educators urged Congress in a letter on Friday to provide necessary resources and federal funding for online education. Drafted by the National Governors Association, and endorsed by education groups that included the American Federation of Teachers, the National Center for Learning Disabilities and the State Higher Education Executive Officers, the letter calls for new funding to ensure K-12 districts and universities can continue providing remote education into the fall.
