Remote work, data are long-term assets for universities, says CIO

While responding to the pandemic remains a top concern in the near term, ensuring his institution also keeps pace with the changes spurred on by the health crisis — like remote work and heavier use of data — will be critical for long-term success, Carnegie Mellon University Chief Information Officer Stan Waddell told EdScoop in a recent interview. “Our workers can still be effective and aligned to the mission and we can still get the work of the organization done. And I think that’s going to be a long-term impact for pretty much any organization," Waddell said. Colin Wood has the story.

Quizlet teams up with TikTok

Quizlet — an edtech company specializing in artificial intelligence-driven study tools — has teamed up with rising social media giant TikTok on interactive learning. The new partnership allows TikTok users to embed Quizlet tools directly into their short-form videos, opening up opportunities for teachers to reach their students in a new way. A tool for coaching students on refusal skills

Following releases of role-playing software for managing issues like sexual violence and mental health, the software company Kognito released another simulation tool this month aimed at reducing overuse of alcohol and other drugs among university students. The simulation presents users with a series of scenarios, including attending a party and helping a friend with a substance abuse problem, while AI-powered virtual coaches provide feedback. The goal of the software is partly to educate students about substance abuse, but mostly to help them improve skills like assertiveness and goal setting. Colin explains how it works.
