Coursera follows through on its diversity commitment

The online learning platform Coursera announced last week a new partnership with Howard University, its first partnership with a historically Black university, along with a host of new course offerings and initiatives centered on diversity, equity and inclusion. Through the new deal, Howard University will build a “job-relevant” course catalog on the platform, starting with its information systems for business and linear algebra for data science specializations. California launches school reopening maps

California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday announced the launch of several new online maps providing a snapshot of schools’ reopening status throughout the state. The maps, which are available through the state’s Safe Schools for All website, show the status — in-person, hybrid or distance learning — of public school districts, charter schools and private schools. According to the announcement, all schools are required to report their status to the state every two weeks to keep the public informed and to help guide community planning. Online giving rose 10% in 2020

Online giving to higher education institutions grew 10% in 2020, according to a recent analysis from the edtech company Anthology. The company found that public institutions saw an even greater rise in online giving at 16%.  “More people are choosing to give online, and while those are smaller gifts, those gifts add up and they’re helping universities meet some of the additional needs from the pandemic," said Mirko Widenhorn, the report's author.   Colin has more.
