‘Zoombombing,’ an early university concern, continues to plague campuses 

The threat of uninvited users crashing online meetings and lectures was the top security concern when the pandemic forced professors to adopt online learning last year, according to Christopher Hufnagel, an IT director leading a team of about 35 technology employees at Cornell University's agriculture and life sciences college. But officials at schools elsewhere around the country say the trend of 'Zoombombing' has picked back up, with incidents persisting even a year into the pandemic. Colin Wood has more.

Bloomberg to spend $150 million on smart-city think tank at Harvard

Bloomberg Philanthropies announced Tuesday it will spend $150 million to create a new civic-tech research institute at Harvard University that will train mayors and other city officials looking to advance their technology and data-driven systems. The new center will expand the capabilities of the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, a training program launched in 2017 that has advised more than 1,000 mayors and their staff members on issues like data, equity and budget management. Millersville U. cancels classes after network outage

A network outage forced Pennsylvania’s Millersville University, a 7,700-student university about 70 miles west of Philadelphia, to cancel classes Monday. The university lost access to its internet service, video conferencing, online course platform and telephone services, though no explanation has been given for the cause of the disruption.
