U. Central Florida restructures IT

The University of Central Florida is reorganizing the chief information officer’s department structure and hiring a new deputy CIO in charge of planning and operations, including finance and operations management. The restructuring, announced Monday, moves the institution away from a flat organizational chart to a tiered chart, with a chief technology officer, chief information security officer and two deputy CIOs. Purdue U. hires a new CIO

Purdue University’s new CIO, Ian Hyatt, began work Tuesday, leading the central IT department of about 500 employees and an $85 million budget. Purdue’s CIO is responsible for developing information security strategy and guiding software integration. The university in 2020 switched its learning management system from Blackboard to Brightspace, while other software integrations Hyatt will oversee include SAP, business operations software, the university said. IBM names recipients of K-12 cybersecurity grants

IBM on Wednesday announced six school systems that’ll receive a total of $3 million of the computing giant’s cybersecurity services. The six K-12 districts, which span from New York to California, were selected from a pool of more than 250 that applied to receive up to $500,000 worth of consultations from the company’s cybersecurity division. Several of the recipients have been the victims of ransomware, data breaches and other cybersecurity incidents. Benjamin Freed has the full story.
