U. of South Florida's 10-year plan includes analytics, shifts in IT

The university's new decade-long plan, which its trustees approved this week, will drive them toward a goal of being recognized by top organizations. The document also guides decisions made by department and university leadership, including investments in information technology focused on data and analytics. Hybrid learning, online credentials will survive edtech 'hype cycle,' edX CEO says

Hybrid learning will escape the “hype cycle” that built up massive open online courses in past years, Anant Agarwal, chief executive of the online learning platform EdX, said during MIT Technology Review’s annual conference on Tuesday. The pandemic caused major shifts in education that stand up the future of stackable credentials and “micro-courses,” he said. These shorter, often-online courses are now making headlines as part of a new normal in education, similar to the attention that massive open online courses did in 2012, Agarwal said. Payment provider Transact targets college students' food insecurity

The higher education payment company Transact is “exploring” methods for colleges to use its technologies to fight food insecurity on campus, officials announced Monday. The company will explore “product and solution integration to facilitate the distribution of meal funds to students experiencing food insecurity across Transact’s client campuses,” as part of a partnership with the nonprofit Swipe Out Hunger, a news release read. Transact provides the technology behind payment solutions like mobile student ID cards, which can also be used as on-campus payment cards, and software to simplify online tuition payments.
