Howard U. names interim CIO

Howard University last week announced Olga Osaghae, the institution’s director of enterprise applications, as its interim chief information officer. As interim CIO, Osaghae will lead Howard’s enterprise technology services and a continued overhaul of the historically Black institution’s technology systems, including a project already underway to install Workday systems for finance and human capital management, which include human resources functions like time tracking and compensation. Netflix expands HBCU workforce pilot

A pilot program between Netflix and 2U, an online course developer, will expand in its second year, connecting students at historically Black colleges and universities and Hispanic-serving institutions with skills training and mentors at the online entertainment giant, the companies announced last week. The free online bootcamps, which run for 16 weeks, offer “pathways” in user experience and user interface design, advanced Java and applied data science. The free courses are designed by 2U, led by faculty at participating colleges and funded by Netflix. Students also are linked with one-on-one mentorship with Netflix employees. Emily has it.


Florida chooses data vendor to analyze workforce data

The Florida Department of Education selected the Denver software company Pairin to develop technology that shows how well the professional credentials earned by Floridians are aligning with the demands of employers, the company announced last week. Designed to guide both policymakers and members of the public as they plan their educations and careers, the company’s My Journey platform draws data from a wide range of sources to offer a more precise accounting of workforce trends, said Michael Simpson, Pairin’s chief executive.
