'Harmonized' IT systems can diffuse cyber risk

At Duke University, minimizing information security risks comes from “harmonized” systems instead of fragmented services across hundreds of providers, Mary McKee, the institution’s identity management and security services director, said during a Crowdstrike event on Thursday. Cloud adoption and work-from-anywhere culture are expanding the amount of entry points information security leaders need to secure, she said. McKee said that as well as streamlining the number of providers an institution uses, tackling security from a resource-based approach instead of a person- or role-based approach can help minimize risk. Bowling Green State expands wireless capacity

Ohio’s Bowling Green State University is spending $4.7 million to upgrade existing wireless access points and install new ones on four campuses, university leaders told EdScoop. The upgrade, designed to address wireless networking equipment last refreshed in 2012, is planned to run through next summer. A network of approximately 2,800 access points could grow to 3,400 devices as the university’s technology office builds capacity. Emily has it.


Everfi sells higher education arm for $100 million

Everfi, a company that provides training courses on subjects like underage drinking and sexual-assault prevention, is selling its higher education division to the training and risk-management firm Vector Solutions for $100 million, the companies announced Tuesday. With the addition of Everfi, Vector Solutions’ customer base will now include 50% of all degree-granting institutions in the United States, according to the announcement.
