Google gives UT $3 million for computer science

Google’s philanthropic arm will invest $3 million in funding over the next three years in a University of Texas at Austin computer science education initiative called the Expanding Computing Education Pathways (ECEP) Alliance. The program aims to overcome barriers to computer science instruction in state education systems. ECEP’s goal is for all states to have computer science education pathways “that attract and support a diverse range of students prepared to enter computer science and computing-intensive careers,” UT officials said. The debt wipeout for defrauded students

The U.S. Department of Education last week continued its run of clearing debts incurred by students of for-profit and primarily online colleges that were found to have conned their students about academic reputations and future job prospects, canceling $1.5 billion owed by people who attended Westwood College, which closed in 2015. Over the past few months, the department has also wiped out billions in debt owed by former students of the similarly defunct ITT Technical Institute and Corinthian College. Read more.
