Amazon and Carnegie Mellon University last week announced the launch of the CMU-Amazon AI Innovation Hub, a center designed to advance research on generative artificial intelligence, robotics, natural-language processing and cloud computing technologies.

According to the university, Amazon will provide “substantial” funding for research projects, doctoral fellowships and community-building initiatives.

“The convergence of agentic AI, robotics and natural-language processing represents an unprecedented opportunity to reshape how we live and work,” Swami Sivasubramanian, vice president of agentic AI at Amazon Web Services, said in a press release. “By partnering with CMU, a recognized pioneer in these fields, we’re creating an ecosystem where breakthrough research can be rapidly transformed into solutions that benefit society at large.”

According to the university, the hub will support joint research between Amazon and CMU, host regular symposiums and workshops and offer Ph.D. fellowships that focus on challenges facing AI researchers. A first symposium is scheduled for Oct. 28 on CMU’s Pittsburgh campus.
