Miami Dade College opened the doors of its first of two centers for artificial intelligence, propping up new courses and professional development programs.

Miami Dade College said it selected Canvas to support a “diverse student population with a fully mobile and accessible solution.”

Administrators are looking to centralize the platform used to communicate with students to better make use of data and enable predictive analytics.

The institution hired as its new chief information officer Tanya Acevedo, who's held technology leadership roles in local government and, most recently, the Houston airport system.

Miami Dade College will receive $10 million in assets from IBM over the next three years to expand its workforce development and technology programming.
