Bowling Green State announces ‘first’ AI degree that combines other subjects

Bowling Green State University in Ohio on Friday claimed it has become the first higher education institution in the nation to offer an undergraduate degree in artificial intelligence that is tailored to specific fields of study.
The degree is called Bachelor of Science in AI + X, combining study of AI with a secondary study of either computer science, math, physics, history, journalism or public relations.
BGSU President Rodney K. Rogers said in university press materials that the degree is meeting a growing demand from employers.
“This program in AI + X will empower students to design their degree around a specific focus to drive innovation in workforce and industry, leading to great careers and great lives,” he said.
The new program is housed in the university’s computer science school, where faculty teach AI courses on Python programming, ethics, machine learning and data visualization.
