Oakland University is offering free cyber assessments for Michigan companies
Small and medium-sized companies in Michigan can receive a free assessment of its cybersecurity readiness thanks to a research project the Oakland University Cybersecurity Center in Rochester, Michigan is conducting.
The university’s research is based on responses from companies that participate in a free, 40-question survey. The survey takes 30 minutes, and companies will receive a SensCy score based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology cybersecurity framework. Participating companies will also receive a one-page evaluation, including recommendations to improve its company’s cybersecurity practices.
This is one of the first initiatives undertaken by the Oakland University Cybersecurity Center since it launched in June through a partnership with Automation Alley. The center is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security and Emergency Response.
“As small and medium-sized manufacturers face unprecedented cybersecurity risks, it’s essential for these companies to be aware of their cyberhealth score and ways to potentially lower their risk,” said Tom Kelly, executive director and CEO of Automation Alley, in a press release. “This evaluation will help companies understand the risk to their brand, people and supply chain posed by cyberattacks and help identify ways to improve cybersecurity policies and practices.”
The SensCy score is based on a 1,000-point scale that weighs areas such as a company’s cybersecurity policies, cyber awareness and the ability to detect and respond to cyber incidents impacts. The project’s cyber evaluation is conducted by a professional from SensCy, Automation Alley said in a release, and companies should strive to score more than 800 points.
