Santa Clara University’s School of Engineering this week announced a new interdisciplinary master’s program in artificial intelligence.
The program at the California university is designed to provide advanced training for students who want to to “develop, implement, and manage AI systems,” according to a press release.
“What sets our program apart are the software and hardware tracks, a deep integration of ethical training, and opportunities for AI practicums with Silicon Valley partners. Our graduates will leave with the technical skills and the values and vision to use AI for good,” Kendra Sharp, dean of the engineering school, said in a press release.
Such programs are growing in popularity among higher education institutions, in an attempt to meet a growing demand for skills and understanding of an emerging technology. Generative artificial intelligence tools continue to proliferate in and out of higher education.
“Through our MSAI program, students will gain technical mastery and a critical understanding of AI’s societal impact. They will be empowered to create intelligent and trustworthy technologies,” Yi Fang, a computer science and engineering professor and director of SCU’s Responsible AI initiative, said in the release.
The school will offer the program with two concentrations, one for computer science students that focuses on computation and algorithms, and an engineering focus that centers on devices, robotics and AI chip design.
