University at Buffalo to offer AI-centered degrees

University at Buffalo will offer seven majors and two minor degrees that offer varying specializations in artificial intelligence, SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. announced Wednesday.
“At SUNY, we work to ensure that AI is harnessed to do research for the public good, and when combined with disciplines as varied as language and geography, we are helping our students learn in new ways that spark innovation and push new frontiers,” King said in a statement.
The degree programs include study of geospatial analysis, language technology, logic, policy analysis, quantitative economics, communication, crime and AI ethics.
The new programs, run by the university’s Department of AI and Society, received $5 million in state funding. The school has said it expects the new AI programs will enroll more than 300 students annually by 2030.
