A new partnership between Carnegie Mellon University and the Gates Foundation will provide students with a new AI-powered software platform designed to improve their educational experiences.

A $55 million investment between the partners will support the launch of Learnvia, an AI-enabled software platform that combines lessons, homework and an AI-tutor, Trib Live reported Thursday.

“For decades, Carnegie Mellon University has served as a global leader at the intersection of AI, research innovation and learning science,” CMU President Farnam Jahanian said in a press statement. “With support from the Gates Foundation, Learnvia is using this expertise to develop cutting-edge, AI-enabled courseware that is designed to improve outcomes at scale and help students across the nation not just endure gateway college courses but thrive in them.”

University leaders said the new software will allow professors to spot where students are struggling and make adjustments to ensure they can succeed. According to its website, Learnvia is an “all-in-one solution for gateway math courses, combining interactive lessons, homework, quizzes, discussion forums, and a built-in AI tutor in one digital environment.”
