Florida Atlantic University adds quantum computing certificate
Florida Atlantic University, a public university in Boca Raton, last week announced it will offer a new certification in quantum computing, a technology its press materials called “one of the most transformative emerging technologies shaping the future of enterprise.”
An eight-week course will aim to provide students with practical knowledge of an arcane and emerging discipline. Quantum computing relies on subatomic physics and quantum bits, which, unlike the binary bits used by normal computers, can be superimposed as both 0 and 1 simultaneously.
“FAU’s decision to launch this course reflects a convergence of several important trends, including the growth of high-tech industries in South Florida and the university’s commitment to preparing business leaders for emerging technologies that will shape the future economy,” Daniel Gropper, dean of FAU’s business college, said in a press release. “Quantum computing represents a significant evolution in how we think about technology and problem-solving, and this program gives professionals the opportunity to better understand its potential, evaluate its business applications and explore how organizations can strategically prepare for what comes next.”
According to the announcement, the certificate will provide students with an opportunity to “examine the fundamentals of quantum computing, explore real-world business applications, evaluate technology providers and develop strategies for integrating quantum capabilities into organizational planning.”
