The U.S. Department of Education will reclaim $390 million in unspent COVID-19 emergency relief funds from colleges and universities.
Of $76 billion distributed to colleges between 2020 and 2022, $390 million was either returned or unclaimed and will be rescinded, a U.S. Department of Education spokesperson told Higher Ed Dive last week.
Colleges spent more than $1 billion of their Higher Education Emergency Relief Funding on technology and software to support distance teaching and learning, according to a recent analysis published by The Chronicle of Higher Education.
