Purdue University on Tuesday announced that Christian Theumer, who’d been serving as the university’s interim chief information officer and vice president for information technology, was named to the roles in a permanent fashion on Jan. 1.
As CIO, Theumer is responsible for overseeing the university’s IT services, including cybersecurity, user experience, enterprise reporting, infrastructure services, academic IT services, and distributed campus services. According to a press release, he also provides support for research services and Purdue’s West Lafayette and Indianapolis locations — Purdue Northwest and Purdue Fort Wayne.
“It is an incredible honor to step into this role and continue serving the Purdue community,” Theumer said in the release. “I look forward to leading our talented IT team to drive innovation and achieve excellence at scale.”
Before joining Purdue, which enrolls about 52,000 graduate and undergraduate students, Theumer was director of infrastructure operations at International Game Technology, a Las Vegas company that produces slot machines and other gambling machines.
“Christian’s proven expertise in IT leadership and operations makes him exceptionally prepared to advance Purdue’s IT strategies and support the university’s systemwide campuses,” Chris Ruhl, the university’s chief financial officer, said in the release.
