The Ohio State University has launched a new website and an app designed to make its public art more accessible, the institution announced Thursday.

The new service is tied to QR codes recently installed around its five campuses at its many public art installations. Scanning the codes provides information about the art pieces, and it also contains maps and additional information about the school.

The new service is run through the Bloomberg Connects app, which contains similar guides for hundreds of other art galleries, museums, zoos and landmarks around the globe.

“I will admit, as I’ve been putting these signs up, I’m making a little bit of a ruckus,” Megan Cavanaugh, the university’s manager of campus art told the school. “I’m hoping people will notice and wonder what I’m doing, then come over, look at the sign and scan the QR code.”

She said an additional new arts website better showcases what’s available, including information about special initiatives and a university-wide arts events calendar.
