Google education suite adds new security, AI detection features
Google this week announced new features to its Google Workspace for Education product, including additional cybersecurity and AI detection features.
A blog post on Google’s website explains that users can detect images and videos that have been created by or edited by Google AI using SynthID, the search giant’s digital watermark. Eventually, the post reads, Gemini, Google’s AI bot, will be able to verify audio and check for content created by other AI models, too.
New security features include more granular controls, including ransomware detection in Google Drive. Education Plus and Education Standard users will also gain access to SecOps data connector, which gathers Workspace audit data in one location, rather than leaving it spread across different apps, like Gmail, Drive and Calendar.
One additional feature Google announced this week was additional access controls for Google Meet, which lets hosts decide who can join their live streams or limit access based on sets of users, rather than entire domains.
